About Us
The Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation (HFBF) was organized back in
1948 by a group of farmers on the Windward side of Oahu. It was
then that the very first Farm Bureau meeting was held.
In 1950, the HFBF was formerly incorporated and has grown into
the present statewide organization consisting of approximately 2200
member families in ten counties located throughout the State. These
counties include:
- East Oahu County Farm Bureau
- Hamakua County Farm Bureau
- Hilo County Farm Bureau
- Kauai County Farm Bureau
- Kohala County Farm Bureau
- Kona County Farm Bureau
- Maui County Farm Bureau
- Molokai County Farm Bureau
- South Oahu County Farm Bureau
- West Oahu County Farm Bureau

We are affiliated with the American Farm Bureau Federation, which

across America. The American Farm Bureau Federation is very active
and is responsible for many of the reforms now taking place at the
national level to help the farming industry.
Purpose of the Hawaii
Farm Bureau Federation
The Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation (HFBF) is a non-profit organization
of farming families united for the purpose of analyzing problems
and formulating action to ensure the future of agriculture thereby
promoting the well-being of farming and the State's economy.
Our guiding policies originate at the grassroots County Farm Bureau
level with the ideas, opinions and contributions of our concerned
membership. We encourage the participation of every member, and
try to have open communication with them through our annual convention,
county meetings and our monthly newsletter. Policies are adopted
after discussion at our County and State meetings.
Through our County Farm Bureau, members can identify areas of special
interest in which they would like to participate. Some of these
areas include:
- Taxes
- Land use
- Water
- Pesticide awareness
- Legislative activity
- MembershipCommodity groups
- Marketing
Each committee consists of a representative from each of the nine
counties and meetings are held on a regular basis to address specific
concerns.
The State organization and the individual counties have also become
involved in a scholarship program and each year award deserving
students a scholarship to continue their education.
The Farm Bureau is very active in Government and some of the Legislative
Goals include:
-
Adoption of sensible land use policies which will preserve agricultural
lands currently in use and suitable for use in the future.
-
Adoption of State and County governmental policies that will give
farmers manageable water rate price structures and assure them of
reliable water sources and adequate supply for their farms.
-
Adoption of continuing State and County support of farmers marketing
programs to expand the export of local crops and promote greater
local consumption of locally produced commodities.
-
Increase awareness of the economics and social contributions that
agriculture makes to the State.
